The the 19 members of the Sweet Farm Duck Gang come from a variety of different backgrounds. Like chickens, ducks are often raised in backyards by families. When those families move or lose interest, they end up at shelters or worse, released at local ponds where they cannot survive and will either starve or fall victim to predators.
